Lonely Planet and Johannesburg - [color=navy:0992a9d4be]As a proud Joburger, I am disgusted with the way Lonely Planet has portrayed my city of Johannesburg, South Africa. Quite honestly, who on earth would want to come here after reading this review (follows down below)?? And Lonely Planet is a respectable travel guide
I concede that Joburg isn't one of the safest cities in the world, but people do actually survive here. And to make it worse - there isn't any mention whatsoever of the other tourist sites in Johannesburg. The Bohemian Melville, The African Museum, The Apartheid Museum, the theatres, the nightlife, Gold Reef City theme park, the casino's, the SHOPPING, Rosebank, Sandton, the cradle of Humankind, Sterkfontein Caves, the Mandela Bridge, the Carlton Centre the list goes on. Instead, Hillbrow is mentioned a slum. Go figure! :oddball:
I don't know if anyone from Lonely Planet reads these forums, but really, their portrayal of Johannesburg is too shocking for words!!! :nailgun:
... Keentraveller - new user intro - Hi - my name is Andy, I'm the editor of a website called MyCottageHoliday.co.uk. It's the first independent site solely dedicated to UK holiday cottage and self-catering property reviews. It is the only website where users can find impartial UK holiday cottage reviews and share cottage holiday experiences.
My interest is UK holidays and particularly self-catering, where I have quite a bit of experience. So I hope to be able to contribute usefully to those kind of threads.
I've been lucky enough to travel extensively - favourite spot was Kuching in Sarawak (closely followed by the NE corner of Corfu). But I always love a British Summer holiday or a Winter city break somewhere like Bath.
A friend of mind recommended the forum - I hope I'll be able to contribute positively..... Hawai'i - I had to go to Hawai'i to work, darn the luck! :)
I was in Waikiki, near Honolulu on the island of Oahu.
Here are a couple of photos from the hotel.
The first one is from my room, which didn't face the beach:

The next couple of days I had to work, including the weekend, and didn't get a chance to do much site seeing, but I'll have some more photos soon..... The Oasis of my Soul... A Lifelong Journey... - Hard to believe that one week and more has already gone by in this New Year time is starting to speed up as I look at maps, there is no plans or directions, the weather will be my guide mostly as I have to move on to warmer climates, mainly for Spirit. With even two coats on, the poor guy is cold, he does not want to go out and I am not feeling comfortable with his lethargic days we both need our exercise him as much as me!
We did not ride yesterday spend it mostly at Jerrys and Naldas Bookstore it amazes me for a town this small how many interesting people there are so many conversations!
There are always pictures from the past that do not make it on the Blog with Cagiva 549's permission I have posted some of the recent past ones
Hope you enjoy.... Thoughts on Galicia? - Hello, we're going to be spending a week to 10 days in Galicia this May, and wanted to poll the community for ideas/recommendations. We'll be staying in a little place called Oleiros about 50km southwest of Santiago de Compostela. Neither of us has ever been to this region of Spain, and are looking for suggestions--here are a few things we enjoy: beautiful hikes, crusty medieval villages, cultural events, meeting locals (our Spanish is totally passable), scenic drives (we'll have a rental car), hidden food gems and anything that our 18 month-old son might go cuckoo for. Many thanks in advance for helping make this trip special..... US Gov. Travel Infos For India Travel - This is very sad but yet to inform you that traveling in India is a great idea unless you avoid some of the restricted area. India is developing and there are certain challenges that India has been facing for a long time.
Below mentioned restricted areas are very enchanting places but its true that these places are some sort of unsafe.

Did you ever come Pakistan for enjoy your vacation?
I know when peoples read word Pakistan they suddenly say "NO".they don't want to go.However i know that there are several issues worldwide today. Among those terrorism is most important and significant. Many countries are facing terrorism including Iraq, Afghanistan, India, Israel, Turkey, Srilanka, and many other countries. However Pakistan is more highlighted and unfortunately not only it is facing terrorist attacks but also facing false blames due to negative propaganda.
There is no doubt that Pakistan has several issues which need proper attention and earliest possible solution but at the same time this country has lot of positive aspects which are hidden from global eye.
Pakistan is supposed to be the most dangerous place of the world which is not true. There is lawlessness in few areas but Pakistan is a large country and unrest in one area does not mean that the whole country is disturbed.... Tiger Spotting in India | Bandhavgarh Vs. Pench - Hi,
We are trying to make up our mind on visiting India early March 2009 to spot tigers and are unable to decide between Bandhavgarh and Pench.
Since we are short on time, our preference is to go to Pench as it is easier to get to.
Any advice on the below topics would be greatly appreciated:
1. Your experiences of spotting a Tigers and/or Leopards
2. Names of any recommended guides
3. Places to stay
I shall contribute back with my trip report ;-)
